Recording artist, instrumentalist, vocalist, and voice over artist, Holly is a well rounded individual!
At a very young age, Holly began experimenting with scat singing and rhythmic vocalization. Recognizing harmonies comes easily to her, and this is apparent when she begins to sing or play along with a melody line. She not only hears one part, she hears multiple parts, opening the door for a variety of standard and non-traditional musical combinations.
As a recording artist, Holly has contributed as a vocalist and fiddler on projects by Patchwork, BellJar, Aunt Muncie, Cosmic Preachers, Dean Phelps and others. She is also a songwriter, and her Gospel song “The Gift” has received extensive airplay in both the United States and Europe.
As a performer, she’s been fortunate to sing and play with numerous individuals and groups from across the United States and Europe. Beginning in the mid-90’s with the acoustic groups Evensong and Ha’Mercy, and more recently with Alice Chalmers and the Stick a Cork In Your Jug Band, Holly currently performs with the acoustic duo Patchwork, as well as Cosmic Preachers, a band that plays original rock music. Holly’s deep appreciation and knowledge of various music genres shows up in often unexpected places. She’s played with a number of acoustic rock and rock bands, as well as playing blues fiddle with several artists, including 2011 Star-Gennett Foundation Blues Artist of the Year Brian Keith Wallen and more traditional fiddling with Eunan McIntyre, an award-winning singer/songwriter from Glencolmcille in Co Donegal, Ireland. Holly also plays regularly with 2012 National Guitar Thumbpick Champion Dean Phelps and contributed vocally and instrumentally on his 2012 release “Pickin’ the Faith.”
Recently, Holly has discovered another interest in the recording arts. She was given the opportunity to do some voiceover work for WICR 88.7 and absolutely loved it! As a voiceover artist, Holly regularly appears on the syndicated Fields of Bluegrass Radio Hour and Redbud Radio show.
Holly has been a fiddle instructor at the Metamora Old Time Music Festival in Metamora, Indiana for the past four years and will be returning again in 2015 She also teaches at the Raintree Music Heritage Festival in Spiceland, Indiana, and any time the opportunity presents itself at Patchwork’s various public performances at festivals and other small, intimate venues. She is also the Children’s Festival Director for the Irvington Folk Festival.
